First Session – Introduction

Photography – Documentary + Fine Art – think about that photo – was/is there a painting? Painting – was/is there a photograph.

-Labels, branding, adverts,  promotion, subcultures, celeb culture, animation – moving or non moving, maps – ideological representation of where/how big they are.

Cultural forms – everything – light frames, work, chair, photograph etc
Critical frameworks – philosophical, cultural, historical, cultural, political + many more.

Euro centric account of visual culture

Relationship > Painting

Critic – How it could be improved? Opinion – others, yours. Questioning it’s purpose.
Analysis – asking questions about that thing
Description – explaining on object – thing

Manifest – eg shoes as functional objects
Latent Content – eg shoes as fetish objects

Denotation – ‘Literal’ – first level
Co-notational – ‘associational’ – second level
Iconography – writing about images, descriptive + classificatory is concerned with the subject matter.

Genre – ‘species, kind or sort’ or type
Be aware of genre’s in your practice to understand on your own

My object:

Content – Object, text, memorabilia, picture in plastic, colorful, useful – opens my door.
